Teacher Troubles: Profiling Recent Cases of Sexual Misconduct

NBC 6 Investigators reviewed hundreds of court and Department of Education administrative complaints. We found that more than 40 teachers in South Florida (Broward and Miami-Dade) have been accused of sexual misconduct in the past two years. Some have been fired, arrested and/or charged as a result.

A former Broward teacher allegedly sent inappropriate text messages to a 16-year-old former student. In one of them, he wrote “id totally crush hard on you if I was back in high school" and asked her to keep their conversations private. “You tell NOBODY I told you this.” The Florida Department of Education revoked his teaching license for five years.

In 2016, the state revoked the teaching license of an athletic coach for five years after he was accused of making inappropriate comments and sending text messages to a 16-year-old student. On one occasion, he allegedly gave her a ride in his car and told her “this is where the magic happens."
