Teen Arrested in Pembroke Park Drive-Thru Shooting

Albert Ponce, 17, allegedly shot at Checkers employees after they told him the restaurant was closed.

Authorities arrested a teen they believe was the shooter who fired his gun at two fast food restaurant employees because the Pembroke Park establishment was closed.

Albert Ponce, 17, was arrested Thursday on a warrant and has been charged as an adult in the July 26 shooting at a Checkers restaurant, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The business at 4000 W. Hallandale Beach Boulevard had just closed when a white SUV with a male and female passenger drove up and asked two employees if they could get some food, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. The workers told them the restaurant was closed.

"Not taking no for an answer, the driver pulled out a handgun and fired several shots toward the two men," BSO said in a news release.

One of the employees was shot in the leg and was taken to an area hospital, with what Broward Sheriff's Office officials described as a non-life threatening injury. The other employee was unharmed.

Surveillance video showed a white SUV driving into the parking lot before employees could be seen ducking from gunshots.

Ponce is facing two counts of second-degree murder, a charge of firing a gun from a vehicle and another charge for possessing a firearm as a delinquent, according to detectives. The female passenger isn't facing any charges at this time.
