Teen Gets 28 Years for Killing Mother in Miami-Dade

A South Florida teen has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for fatally stabbing his mother with a butcher knife.

As part of a deal with Miami-Dade County prosecutors, the teen pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder.

Authorities say the then-16-year-old boy got into an argument with his mother, 35-year-old Renette Emile, in March 2013. He strangled her and stabbed her over 100 times. He then covered her body with blankets and left it in her bedroom. For the next week, he went about his normal life, shopping, skipping school, taking care of his 3-year-old brother and even hosting a party at the home.

The Miami Herald reports that the body was finally discovered eight days after the slaying, when Emile's sister grew suspicious and called police.
