Teen Killed in Apparent Accidental Shooting: Miami Gardens PD

Police are investigating the apparent accidental shooting of a teen in Miami Gardens.

The incident occurred at the 2800 block of northwest 172nd terrace Saturday evening.

Tavaris Rhodes, 14, was discovered by police suffering from gunshot wound, police said. Rhodes had been staying at the residence owned by a family friend. Another 14-year-old resident was displaying a gun to Rhodes when the gun fired, striking Rhodes.

According to Miami Gardens Police Chief Antonio Brooklen, "Two 14-year-old juveniles playing with a gun inside a residence, when the gun discharges, and one of the juveniles was rushed to JMH Trauma."

Rhodes was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center where he later died.

The 14-year old subject was charged with Manslaughter and Possession of a Firearm by a Minor and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

This investigation is still ongoing.
