Teen on Skateboard Hit by Car in Deerfield Beach

A 13-year-old riding his skateboard in Deerfield Beach was hit by a car as he tried to cross the street Friday evening.

The accident happened near the intersection of NE 3rd Avenue and 44th Court in Deerfield Beach. Friends of the teenager, Jimmy Jeanjaques, who is a seventh grade student at a nearby school, said he was crossing the street to meet his friends to go see a movie.

A man living nearby ran to the scene of the accident and told NBC 6 Jeanjaques appeared to have suffered serious injuries, but was able to move his arms and legs.

"I'm afraid. I'm scared. I don't want nothing and to happen to that boy. He's like a son," said witness Andy Soriano. "He was laying down over here bleeding, you know, his face was all covered in blood and everything I was kind of sad seeing him like this."

The teen was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center, but his condition hasn’t been released. His sister, who asked not to be identified, said the teen can talk, but can't move his neck.

The driver of the car remained on the scene of the crash and was speaking with police.
