Teens Accused of Burglarizing Weston Schools

Two teens accused of burglarizing two Weston elementary schools were behind bars Wednesday, authorities said.

Preston Michael Borges and Santiago Sebastian Rendon, both 18, were arrested Tuesday on charges including burglary, grand theft and petty theft for the incident at Indian Trace Elementary and Eagle Point Elementary, according to Broward Sheriff's Office arrest reports.

Both teens were being held on $6,000 bond Wednesday. It's unknown if they've hired attorneys.

In bond court Wednesday the teens were read their charges and Borges' mom begged for leniency.

"He's a very good boy, he's never given us problems, he was an honor student, he's never given us a problem, I don't know where this came from," she said.

A deputy responded to the schools around 3 a.m. Tuesday after a silent alarm went off. When the deputy arrived, he spotted a car fleeing the parking lot "in a reckless manner," the reports said.

The car was stopped and inside were Borges and Rendon, along with three laptops and a projector belonging to the schools, the report said.

The teens confessed to burglarizing several portable buildings at Indian Trace, where they stole the laptops, the reports said. They also confessed to burglarizing Eagle Point, where they stole the projector, the reports said.

In addition to the other charges, Rendon is also charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, jail records showed.

Both teens had just started their college careers at Florida International University. One of the teen's father is in law enforcement.
