Thief Broke Into Dania Beach Church 3 Times in 1 Week: BSO

Authorities have arrested a man who they say burglarized a Dania Beach church three times in one week.

Carl Deblasio, 57, was arrested Wednesday on charges including burglary, grand theft and petty theft, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

Deblasio remained behind bars Thursday on $38,500 bond, jail records showed. It's unknown if he's hired an attorney.

Authorities say Deblasio stole $20 from a donation basket at St. Matrona of Moscow church at 123 S. Federal Highway on April 13. He was confronted by a parishioner but fled the scene.

A few days later, on April 17, he broke into the church, smashing a glass door to get inside, authorities said. Once inside he ransacked the church, taking $500 in cash, officials said.

Then on April 20, he broke into the church through a plywood sheet that was in place of the glass door he had broken, authorities said. He went after donations, stealing several hundred dollars, authorities said.
