With the holiday season here, police in South Florida are warning of potential ‘porch pirates’ who are stealing items from people’s homes – with the latest incident caught on camera.

Charity Paredes spoke exclusively with NBC 6 after the doorbell camera at her home off SW 144th Avenue just south of Bird Road caught a thief stealing packages from her front porch Wednesday afternoon.

“(She was) taking as much as she could, whatever she could carry the first time around, she came back for,” Paredes said. “It’s very upsetting to see somebody take advantage of your hard work.”

Paredes said the thief got away with electronics, gifts for her 2-year-old daughter’s school as well diapers for both her daughter and another child she is expecting – adding that neighbors told her they had seen the red sedan the woman left in around their neighborhood.

Retailers have told Paredes they will replace the nearly $300 worth of items that were taken at no cost. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers.
