A furry feline wound up in a storm drain before being rescued Thursday.
Lt. Scott Mullin from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s venom response unit came to the rescue of the cat after someone heard its cries for help in the wee hours and called authorities.
"We have specialized equipment to lift up the drain, looked down inside of it, and there was the kitten swimming around in the water,” Mullin said.
He said he was able to scoop it out with a net that he carries in his truck.
Mullin said the tiny kitten would be taken to Animal Services – but its next stop was the Humane Society of Broward County.
"Once the kitty gets here, we are going to give it some time to rest and recuperate, because apparently it's been through a whole lot, and tomorrow morning our veterinary team will check out the kitten,” said Cherie Wachter, the Humane Society’s vice president of marketing.
As long as the kitten gets a clean bill of health, it could be up for adoption by Friday afternoon, she said.
