A tow truck driver says he's lucky to be alive after he responded to a stranded motorist in Miami and was grazed by a bullet during an attempted armed robbery early Friday.
Heriberto Fajardo responded to the area of 71st Street and Northeast 1st Avenue for a call of a broken down car. When he got there, a man was standing next to a car with the hood popped and told him there's something wrong with the battery.
Fajardo said he was looking at the battery when all the sudden the man was holding a gun and was joined by a second armed man.
"I was willing to give them the money, you know it's not worth getting shot at over any amount of money and they start shooting," Fajardo said. "I said they're going to kill me anyway so I started running and they kept shooting at me for two or three blocks."
Fajardo said one of the bullets grazed his head, creating a bloody mess. He was treated at the scene. The suspects got away with a small amount of cash.
"It's incredible it happened to me, I'm a hard working man, I'm working to make a living, I work 24 hours a day on call and I never thought this could happen to me," he said. Crazy people, they're willing to kill a person over a few dollars, that's unbelievable. I still can't believe it. To the day I die, I will not believe there are people out here willing to kill over a few dollars."
Police are investigating the incident and are looking for the two suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
