Clay County Sheriff's deputies are investigating the origins of an overgrown and cobwebbed-filled semi-trailer converted into a storage shed that contained two shelves of old explosives and a WWII-era rocket launcher.
The Times Union reports some of the explosives were estimated to be about 50 years old and could have been used for construction. The Sheriff's Office says the rocket launcher was used to shoot rope boat-to-boat or over a gap when needed.
Neighbors told deputies the previous owner of the trailer frequented army surplus stores but had died some time ago. The trailer was found by crew that was cleaning the property.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office sent its bomb squad and removed the old explosives and the launcher. It will destroy the materials when possible.
