Trailer Home Fire Being Investigated as Arson: Davie Police

A Good Samaritan put out the fire, the homeowner said

Davie Police said they are looking for an arsonist who set part of a trailer home on fire Sunday morning on the 500 block of Southwest 132nd Avenue.

"When I opened up the front door, you could smell the gasoline," homeowner Frank Torres said. "They knew what they were doing, they knew what gas does."

Torres shares the mobile home at 551 SW 132nd Ave. with his bed-ridden mother, who is battling cancer. The flames torched the corner of the trailer near her bedroom.

"She's inside nervous, we have to keep her out of the sun," he added.

Torres said he was getting ready to leave for work when a couple drove by and saw the flames.

"A Good Samaritan just pulled up out of nowhere with a fire extinguisher and put out the fire," Torres said.

The trailer is structurally sound. Police said there were no injuries, said they believe that the fire was intentionally set and said they are looking for a suspect, but couldn’t release details about the suspect being sought.

Torres said he believes the damage is the work of local teens who steal gas canisters left outside trailer homes.

"There was kids running around yesterday in between the trailer park, same outfits they had on today, with a gas can in their hand," he said. "Because kids just want to see what happens."
