A high school teacher and coach from the Treasure Coast is back home after being among those injured when a gunman opened fire during a video game competition in Jacksonville, killing two people before turning the gun on himself.

Dalton Kent returned to Port St. Lucie overnight after being released from the hospital shortly after the shooting inside Jacksonville’s Landing Complex during a Madden football game tournament. The 22-year-old, who teaches history and severs as a basketball coach, was shot in the shin and was seen on crutches when arriving back home.

“When it happened, it was all just chaotic. When we finally got out it kind of set in that it was actually happening,” Kent told NBC affiliate WPTV, adding that he dove under a table when the gunman started shooting and knew what to do thanks to training at Treasure Coast High School.

“Just last week we had our Code Red drill where we’re kind of talking about the same situation with a gunman in school, and then you don’t really think it’s going to happen to you and then here I am in the middle of that situation,” said Kent.

Nine people with gunshot wounds and two others hurt during shooting were being treated at area hospitals, all in stable condition. The lone suspect in the shooting died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams said at a Sunday evening news conference.

Officials believe the gunman is 24-year-old David Katz from Baltimore. Williams said that Katz was in Jacksonville for the tournament but wouldn't discuss his possible motive. He didn't know if Katz knew the victims. The games maker, EA Sports, lists a David Katz as a 2017 championship winner.
