Trial Begins For Fort Lauderdale Cop Accused of Slapping Homeless Man

Wednesday marks day two in the trial of a Fort Lauderdale police officer who was caught on camera last February pushing and slapping a homeless man, according to court documents.

Victor Ramirez is facing three misdemeanor charges in connection with the February incident, including battery and falsification of a report.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department relieved him from duty without pay, pending the outcome of the criminal case, according to a police statement.

Bruce Laclair, 58, was trying to use a public restroom when Ramirez arrested him for trespassing. Court documents said Ramirez then pushed and slapped Laclair to the ground.

The incident was captured on cell phone video.
