Trooper Injured in Crash on I-4 in Central Florida

The Florida Highway Patrol says a trooper is recovering from injuries suffered when a sports utility vehicle hit his cruiser on Interstate 4.

The agency says Trooper Jay Spencer was conducting speed enforcement in his marked patrol car on the shoulder of westbound I-4 in Volusia County when an SUV driven by Ryan Thompson of Daytona Beach struck his vehicle.

Spencer was trapped inside the car until a rescue crew cut him out. Troopers say he was taken to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers say Thompson suffered minor injuries in the crash.
