A tropical depression formed over the Atlantic Tuesday morning and was forecast to become a tropical storm by Wednesday morning, forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said.
Tropical Depression 10 had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph as it moved west-northwest at 10 mph about 1,030 miles east of the Leeward Islands, according to the NHC's 11 p.m. advisory.
The depression was expected to become a tropical storm Wednesday morning and forecast to become a hurricane by the time it approaches the northern Leeward Island, forecasters said.
The system was expected to make a turn to the right and avoid Florida. There were no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Imelda formed Tuesday in the Gulf of Mexico near Texas. The storm was expected to produce heavy rainfall and flooding in eastern Texas.
