Tropical Storm Conditions Expected in Bermuda From Maria

Maria could become weak hurricane later Thursday

Tropical storm conditions are expected in Bermuda as Tropical Storm Maria moves up the Atlantic.

Maria's maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph (100 kph) early Thursday. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the storm could become a hurricane later in the day, but weakening is expected after that.

A tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch are in effect for Bermuda. The hurricane center says Maria will quickly pass west of Bermuda on Thursday.

Maria is centered about 255 miles (415 kilometers) west-southwest of Bermuda and is moving north-northeast near 26 mph (43 kph).
