Tropical Storm Jerry strengthened over the central Atlantic Ocean Monday night, as its maximum sustained winds increased to 50 mph, the National Hurricane Center in Miami reported.
As of 11 p.m., Jerry was moving east at 8 mph about 1,300 miles east of Bermuda and about 1,220 miles west-southwest of the Azores, according to the NHC.
What was Tropical Depression No. 11 became Tropical Storm Jerry Monday morning.
There were no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
A slow and erratic motion is expected overnight before Jerry heads west late Tuesday. Some strengthening is forecast for next day or so.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 60 miles from Jerry's center.
