Two Dead, One Injured in Apparent Miami Gardens Drive-By Shooting: Cops

Miami Gardens Police said the incident may have involved a high-powered rifle

Two men died and one was injured in Miami Gardens Saturday afternoon after what police believe was a drive-by shooting.

Miami Gardens Police were at the scene of 177th Street and Northwest 14th Ave. They said those involved got out of their vehicle, fired at the men and then fled the scene. The incident may have involved a high-powered rifle, possibly an AK-47, police said.

"One of the victims died at the scene, another was airlifted to Jackson Memorial where he died en route to the hospital," said Capt. Ralph Suarez.

The third victim was rushed to the same hospital where he remains in critical condition.

“Standing at the fence, I saw a young man lying on his stomach and there was another one in the middle and there was one to the far end,” said a Frederick Merchant Thomas, a pastor who heard a car speed away.

Miami Gardens Police believe a fourth victim could have fled the scene. They said they alerted area hospitals that someone in connection to the shooting could be seeking medical attention.

Authorities are also looking for an older model burgundy Grand Prix in connection to the shooting.

“It’s disturbing to come home and see this," said Emily Davis. "This is a very quiet neighborhood, it’s very nice, the people are neighborly.”
