Two people – including a 10-year-old girl – are recovering after what officials say may have been shark bites while in the waters off Brevard County.
The child was bit Monday while on South Melbourne Beach, according to NBC affiliate WESH-TV. Witnesses say they saw a six-inch gash on her leg before the child was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando. She is expected to be okay.
That beach was cleared until officials determined there were no sharks in the water.
Earlier in the day, a woman swimming just north of that location was also bit while swimming offshore. She was treated at the scene and is also expected to be okay.
