Two People Shot at Miami Beach Intersection, Police Continue Search For Shooter

Police are searching for a man they say opened fire on two people at a Miami Beach intersection early Wednesday morning.

Crews responded to the scene near 71st Street and Collins Avenue shortly before 6 a.m. Police say 36-year-old Pedro Villarchao was shot in the stomach while a Valeria Mato, 32, was shot in the hand. She went to a nearby Denny's restaurant and called 911.

Both victims were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, but are expected to be okay.

Josh Poli was on his morning run when he hear the gunshots. "I thought either someone's getting robbed or someone's getting killed," said Poli.

Police said the victims and the suspect may have exchanged words before the shooting.

Officers say the shooter may have fled in a dark colored BMW or possibly Dodge Charger. The driver is described by police as a bald Hispanic male.
