Woman Survives Shooting at North Miami Apartment Complex: Police

A woman is recovering Wednesday after she was shot as she walked to the elevator in her North Miami apartment building, police say.

Police received a call just after 11 p.m. Tuesday that two people had been shot in the lobby of the Center Court Apartments at 14895 Northeast 18th Avenue in North Miami.

Resident Rebecca Bienaime was one of those victims. She says she simply walking to the elevator when she heard the loud popping noise of gunshots.

"I didn't believe it at first until I seen the glass shattering, like, popping on me, flying on me," Bienaime tells NBC 6 South Florida. "That's when I was like, Oh my God, I could possibly die."

Bienaime did not realize it, but she'd just taken a bullet in and out of her leg.

"I just felt like, not even pain, I just felt like liquid. And I looked and I was bleeding. And I was like, I'm hit" she says.

Bienaime managed to get herself up and run away to seek shelter from the barrage of bullets.

"The adrenaline," she says. "I just kept running until I couldn't run no more."

Bienaime and another resident had to be airlifted to Ryder Trauma to be treated for their injuries. She says she doesn't know who the other gunshot victim is, and believed for a time that she was the only one who was shot.

She also says she was not able to get a good look at the gunman.

Neighbors tell NBC 6 South Florida this isn't' the first time something like this happened at the complex, and that if nothing is done, they're going to start moving out.

The identity of the second victim has not been released. According to police, that person's injuries are also not believed to be life threatening.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
