Two Teens in Critical Condition After Being Hit By Driver in Davie

Two teenage girls, aged 14 and 15, remain in intensive care a day after being hit by a car, Davie Police Department said.

The incident occurred during a carnival event near St. Bonaventure Catholic Church and Western High School at the 1200 block of SW 136th Avenue.

Police said the teens did not use a crosswalk as they walked to the carnival. While crossing SW 136th Avenue, they were struck by a 2004 Dodge Neon. The driver remained on the scene.

As of this Saturday morning, both teens are in the Intensive Care Unit at Broward general hospital.

Police believe speed and alcohol were not a factor.

"They were trauma alerted to Broward health. Right now they are in critical condition," DPD Sgt. Mark Leone said. "These girls were running east to west. It's possible they ran in front of this vehicle"

"It's traumatizing for everyone," Leone added.

An investigation is ongoing.
