A horrific overnight crash in Broward County claimed the life of a teen who was days away from starting his senior year in high school.

Fort Lauderdale Police say the crash happened just before midnight Wednesday on State Road 84 at the on ramp to I-95 northbound when a blue 2016 Mazda crashed into a concrete barrier wall. Debris was strewn across the road and the vehicle was a mangled mess.

Police say 17-year-old Latroy Martin died at the scene while family said his 14-year-old cousin died after being taken to Broward Health Medical Center. Police have not confirmed the second death.

Martin's family was in shock after they learned of his sudden death.

"To be honest with you, I don't really know whether I'm coming or going. I don't think it's really set in yet," said Martin's father. The 17-year-old was about to start his senior year at Fort Lauderdale High School, family said.

Two other teen girls were inside the car and they were rushed to the hospital as well. In total, four teens were hospitalized and all of them had to be cut out of the car, according to officials.

Officials say that the car involved had been reported stolen from Palm Beach Gardens. According to the investigation, the car traveled at a high rate of speed up a ramp when it couldn't handle the turn and smashed into a concrete barrier wall.

Fort Lauderlade police have not confirmd which of the teens was at the wheel of the car at the time of the crash.
