UCF Fraternity Suspended After Hazing Allegations

A University of Central Florida fraternity has been temporarily suspended after a student claimed he was hazed.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that school documents released Monday show someone emailed the university on Jan. 5 about a freshman who rushed Phi Delta Theta. The partially redacted email says the student had sought aid after weeks of pledging and psychological harm.

While under suspension, Phi Delta Theta cannot hold chapter meetings, fundraisers, social gatherings or other events.

Gary Burns, the fraternity chapter's president, said in an email that he has "found nothing to support these allegations." He says hazing is counterproductive to the fraternity's goals as an organization, and they continue to work with UCF to resolve the situation.

The school is not naming the student who made the hazing allegations.
