Suspect Named in Shooting of Pregnant Woman in NW Miami-Dade

The Miami-Dade Police Department has named the suspect in the shooting earlier this month in which the unborn baby of a pregnant woman died.

Heidy Bowen was shot multiple times the morning of Nov. 3 in the area of Northwest 49th Street and 19th Avenue.

Sources said Bowen – believed to be in her 20s – was about seven or eight months along in her pregnancy and the baby had to be removed by C-section.

The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner ruled the baby's death a homicide.

The mother has been medically sedated but has been able to communicate with detectives through body signals at times.

Wayne Collier, previously arrested for armed robbery and aggravated battery, has been named as the suspect on the charge of attempted murder. Police confirmed Collier and Bowen were romantically involved prior to the shooting.

"I saw them grow up. They grew up with my children," Valerie Dukes, a longtime family friend, said. "Heidi was a good girl, you know. Her mom was a hard-working woman and she took good care of her kids so how this happened and why is beyond me."
