U.S. Men's Soccer Team Practicing in South Florida

The U.S. men's soccer team is training at Barry University in South Florida as they get ready for the World Cup qualifying matches.

"It's always nice being here in Miami," forward Alan Gordon told NBC 6 Tuesday.

The Miami humidity and heat is getting the team in shape for the first two matches.

"It's hot here. You know you guys don't get a break all year. It's tough to think about it being November but it'll get us prepared for the tropical climate in Trinidad and we're looking forward to that," Gordon said.

The team is playing Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and then Trinidad and Tobago. They have suffered some recent losses but that's not holding them back. The tropical training sessions have them feeling confident.

"We're expected to win both games and there's no doubt in my mind that we'll come out with two wins," Geoff Cameron said.

The athletes also reacted to new U.S. Soccer Federation regulations about headers and concussions. Under the new policy, if you're 10 or younger you can no longer head the ball and if you're 11 to 13 you'll only be allowed to do headers during a game or limited practice.

"They're very cautious now with the history that's happened over the last couple years so yeah I think it's good for the kids," Cameron said.

"I'm sure there's a lot of people you know that are looking into that and trying to help the youth so I think anything that we can do is good," Gordon said.

With soccer quite popular in South Florida, some of the players also touched on the local soccer scene, especially David Beckham's much anticipated Major League Soccer Stadium.

"I think there's a lot of soccer fans here in Miami and I think that if they do it right it could be very successful," Gordon said.

"The culture here, the Spanish community, it's huge, soccer is massive. And hopefully it will be able to happen," Cameron said. "They'll get an MLS team and things will get rolling. When I come back, hopefully I'll be able to come down to Miami and enjoy the sun and play here."
