‘Very Dangerous Individual': Police Search for Rapist in Fort Lauderdale

Police distribute flyers, sketch in search for sexual battery suspect

Fort Lauderdale police officers were out meeting with residents Tuesday as they continue their search for a suspect in a sexual battery.

Officers handed out sketches of the suspect who raped a woman outside an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Middle River Drive. Police said the attack happened when a woman was walking home from work in the early hours last Thursday.

The man allegedly attacked the woman and raped her on the lawn of the apartment complex.

"This is a very dangerous individual and that is why our department is out in the streets passing out flyers, Crimestoppers flyers, and we are trying to identify this individual to take him off the streets," Fort Lauderdale Police Det. Tracy Figone said.

The street with minimal traffic is normally a popular spot for anyone out for a walk or a run. One woman said now due to the danger she is changing her route.

"Actually I will change my route. I am going to change my route over to Bayview where there is more traffic," she said.

Police released a sketch of the alleged rapist, who is described as a white male, about 4-45 years old, 5-foot-11 to 6-foot-0 with a large build. He has a tattoo on the lower right leg possibly of an oriental theme, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
