Victim Attends Hearing for Teen Accused of Stabbing Him at Hialeah Wendy's

A 17-year-old accused of stabbing another teen during a fight outside a Wendy's in Hialeah was back in court Tuesday where he came face to face with his alleged victim.

Eduardo Rivero is still recovering from being stabbed in the back last month. The 18-year-old needed 16 stitches and is finding himself a changed young man.

"I can't run how I used to run, I can't walk how I used to walk. I can't do certain things," Rivero said.

On Tuesday, Rivero sat in juvenile court across from the 17-year-old suspect, who NBC 6 isn't identifying because he's a minor. Prosecutors are waiting for a report from a psychiatrist to see how the case will proceed.

"I don't know. I just want to know why he's saying that he's crazy and he's not crazy, he knows exactly what he was doing," Rivero said.

Rivero said he was with his girlfriend having lunch at the Wendy's near 49th Street and Palm Avenue when a brawl broke out. He said he was trying to protect his friend when he was stabbed.

"I wanted to get my friend out of there because they were going to hurt my friend and when he took off running that's when I got stabbed," Rivero said.

The teen is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for May.
