Family and friends are saying their last goodbyes Friday to one of the South Florida women who was killed in a wrong-way crash on the Sawgrass Expressway.
The funeral mass for Marisa Catronio was held Friday morning at Mary Help of Christians Church in Parkland.
Catronio and best friend Kaitlyn Ferrante, both 21, were in Ferrante's 2012 Toyota Camry when they were struck by a 2004 Hyundai Sonata driven by 20-year-old Kayla Mendoza, who was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the expressway near University Drive, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Catronio was pronounced dead at the scene. Ferrante was rushed to the hospital where she died from her injuries Thursday.
Mendoza remains at Broward Health North in fair condition.
It was revealed on Thursday that just two hours before the crash, Mendoza wrote "2 drunk 2 care" on her Twitter page, where she calls herself a "pothead princess."
The FHP hasn't said whether alcohol was a factor in the crash and said the cause is still under investigation.
Catronio's family is now working on a project called "Marisa's Way" to help prevent crashes like this one in the future.
Ferrante's family is scheduled to hold a news conference Friday night with their attorneys.
