A Victoria crowned pigeon has successfully hatched at Zoo Miami.
The chick hatched on November 30th after 28 days of incubation at the zoo's brooder building, zoo officials announced Thursday.
The bird, known as the world's largest living pigeon, can reach a length of nearly 30 inches and can weigh close to 5 pounds. It is one of the closest living relatives of the now-extinct Dodo bird.
Adult Victoria crowned pigeons are distinguished by their ornate blue and burgundy feathers and deep red eyes.
Once the new Zoo Miami chick is weaned, it will be introduced into the zoo's "Wings of Asia" aviary exhibit.
