Video Released in North Miami Hit-and-Run That Left Elderly Woman Hospitalized

Police released video Thursday in the search for a hit-and-run driver in North Miami who's responsible for sending an elderly woman to the hospital.

"We're just very happy. The power of prayer, it's awesome," June Sajous said.

Sajous said she's feeling blessed now that her elderly mother is on the road to recovery.

"Seeing her being able to speak, she's requesting to eat, just hearing her talk, we're very happy," Sajous said.

Marie Williams, 80, is lucky to be alive after the driver of a blue convertible Ford Mustang struck her and took off last Tuesday. The incident happened at West Dixie Highway and Northeast 137th Street.

Surveillance video shows the moments after the crash right before 4 a.m. Officer Natalie Buissereth has her theory of why the driver failed to stop, a possible suspended license, no insurance, or warrants.

"That's not the reason to leave someone lying on the ground, the most you'll get is a citation. Now it's criminal," Buissereth said.

Meanwhile, Sajous has had a change of heart toward the driver responsible for her mother's injuries.

"Initially I was very angry. But after a couple of days I realized that anger was not going to help my mom get any better," she said. "I forgive that person, hopefully that person will be convicted enough to come forward and turn herself in."

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
