After a violent incident occurred at the Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School in Miami on Tuesday, the parents of a freshman are outraged and concerned.
The incident that was captured on video shows two female students in a physical altercation.
Alejandra Mendez said it all began over a seat in the classroom.
"I told her nicely to go somewhere else because that was my seat, so I sat there. She threw my phone and I stood up and told her 'OK, then sit down' and she started hitting me," Alejandra said.
Alejandra is seen being punched in the face by another student who is also pulling her hair and yelling profanities.
Alejandra's parents do not want her daughter to return to school if authorities are not able to assure she will be safe. The parents for both students will meet with administrators on Wednesday.
Local
Miami-Dade County Public Schools released a statement:
"We are conducting a thorough review to determine the factors that led to this unfortunate incident. One, if not both, students will be disciplined according to the Code of Student Conduct. As always, we will continue to emphasize the importance of restraint and respect to our students."
