Volunteers Build Multigenerational Playground

Volunteers took five hours to build the playground in Lauderhill

How fast can you build a playground?

Lynne Kunins is doing it in five hours. Sure, she has the help of more than 220 volunteers. Especially on a sweltering summer day, it’s still a feat.

Kunins directs Florida Introduces Physical Activity and Nutrition to Youth. Her organization partnered with the playground-building nonprofit, KaBoom, and the City of Lauderhill.

Humana Inc. supplied volunteers and building materials for the play space at Ruth Rothkopf Park on NW 44th Street.

The balance beam, swings, and fitness stations are not just for kids.

“This is a multigenerational playground,” Kunins explained. It’s for parents and grandparents to bring their kids and share the fun, and exercise.

"It's fantastic," said 71-year-old volunteer Many Duran, who works for Humana. "It's all about health.
