One of the biggest holiday events in South Florida has begun as hundreds of people waited in line during the cold of Wednesday morning for a chance to get a coveted holiday food basket.

CAMACOL, the Latin Chamber of Commerce, is giving out 3,000 vouchers during their 33rd annual Distribution Food Drive. The giveaway, taking place at their headquarters located at 1401 West Flagler Street, attracts crowds from all over Miami-Dade County looking for some help during the season.

“We are very grateful to the sponsors who have helped make this possible, to the volunteers that have donated their time and to the community that has helped keep this tradition alive,” said Mercy Saladrigas, president of CAMACOL.

The baskets are themed for a Latin style holiday dinner, complete with rice, beans, yucca, a pork shoulder and all the essential items to make the feast.

Vouchers will be given on a first come, first serve basis and those who are lucky enough to get one will return on December 12th to claim their basket.
