WATCH: Oakland Park Gas Station Armed Robbery Attempt Fails

Authorities are looking for an armed thief who failed in his attempt to rob an Oakland Park gas station in an incident that was caught on camera.

The robbery attempt happened the afternoon of April 14 at the Mobil Gas station at 901 W. Oakland Park Boulevard, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

Surveillance video from inside the store showed the man approach the counter and pull out a gun, then point it at the clerk and demand money from the register.

"He come in here and put a gun towards my head and said, 'Give me money,' and I said, 'I don't have money. What money?'" explained Veli Alci, manager of the gas station.

Alci held his ground during the attempted armed robbery and was able to delay the robber until he could flee into a back room and call 911. The robber tried to open the register but fled the store when he realized he couldn't get it open.

Alci was a commander in the Army in Turkey and said his training helped him not to panic, "I'm not worried about this."

Authorities said the suspect drove a light-colored Toyota. He's described as a black man in his 20's and about 5'7" with a thin build. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
