A flood watch that was in effect for parts of Miami-Dade and Broward Tuesday has been canceled, the National Weather Service said just before 7:30 p.m.
The watch had been scheduled to last until 10 p.m., but the weather service said heavy rainfall in the watch area was no longer expected. Widespread showers and thunderstorms have remained inland, well west of metro areas along the east coast, the agency said.
Downpours swept through South Florida overnight, followed by more rains Tuesday.

The heavy overnight rains left some areas flooded early Tuesday. Nearly nine inches of rain have fallen over portions of South Florida since Monday afternoon with another couple of inches expected through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

A threat for lightning and gusty winds was also in the forecast Tuesday.
In west Miami-Dade, workers were pumping water out of a swamped parking lot in the 8100 block of Northwest 7th Street early Tuesday, and said it could take hours.
"I was at work and I heard the rain but it wasn't like this," resident Sam Busto said. "I didn't think it would be this bad, it's real bad."

At a flood garage on West Flagler Street, drivers tried to stay away from the high waters.
"Well, this happens from time to time when the rain is too much," Orlando Hernandez said.
Florida Power and Light officials said 1,000 customers in Miami-Dade and 1,100 in Broward were without power early Tuesday, but crews were working around the clock to restore power.
Showers and storms will remain possible Wednesday before the wet weather tapers off late in the week. Improving weather will come by Friday and hold into the Memorial Day weekend.
