Weekend Happenings: #WinterOlympics, Wade County, Watch Parties

2018 #WinterOlympics

NBC 6 is your station for watching the 2018 Olympic Winter Games unfold. Viewing parties are scheduled throughout the region, including one at Miami Beach’s STK. The viewing party at 1100 Biscayne Blvd. in Miami will feature Olympics-themed specials and shots. The event will be held on Friday, Feb. 9. For more on the #WinterOlympics, click here.

2018 Dolphins Cancer Challenge

This Saturday, hundreds of cyclists, runners and walkers will hit the streets of South Florida for a cause: The 2018 Dolphins Cancer Challenge. The eventaims to raise money for cancer research, according to the website. Proceeds will be donated to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The race spans across the region, with various runs and rides scheduled for Boca Raton, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Davie and other cities. However, they all end in the same place: The Hard Rock Stadium. Click here for the schedule and to purchase tickets. 

GroundUP Music Festival

Grammy award-winning artist Snarky Puppy will host the GroundUP Music Festival in Miami Beach this year from Feb. 8 to 11. The festival, which some call the “Art Basel of Music,” according to the event’s CEO, will feature performances from international superstars like The Wood Brothers, Victor Wooten and Futureman. Flamingo Gardens Gala in the Gardens

In order to raise awareness and funds for the botanical gardens and wildlife sanctuary, Friends of Flamingo Gardens are holding an annual food and wine benefit called Gala in the Gardens. The event’s theme is “A Tropical Sunset” and premium wines and craft beers will be available. The gala is set for 5 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 11. For ticket information and pricing, click here.

Miami Beach Bar, Beats and Bites Crawl

On Friday night, head down to Miami Beach for a bar crawl with stops at Nautilus South Beach, DÔA, Villa Azur and WALL Miami. The crawl starts at 8:30 p.m. at Nautilus South Beach and will feature bites, drinks, beats and specialty cocktails.

Miami Heat vs. Milwaukee Bucks

Dwyane Wade is returning to Miami just in time for the Heat game against the Milwaukee Bucks tonight. Within hours of the trade’s announcement and news that Wade is planning to play in the game, ticket prices soared from a low of $35 for upper deck seats to almost $100. As of Friday morning, the highest ticket prices on StubHub ranged from over $1,200 for lower level seats to $8,000 for courtside seats. While it’ll definitely cost you to attend the game at the American Airlines Arena, sports bars and restaurants are hosting local watch parties. Click here for more information.
