Woman Dies on Florida Keys Dive Trip

A woman was pronounced dead after complications on a diving trip in the Keys.

Authorities say a 54-year-old woman from Merritt Island is dead following a diving trip off the Florida Keys.

Monroe County Sheriff's deputies say Joy Meyers was with a group of divers and a guide from a boat owned by Keys Dives of Islamorada on Thursday afternoon when she indicated she was having trouble.

The guide took her to the surface and she returned to the boat about 2 p.m. Meyer started removing her gear. A short time later, a crew member noticed her chin on her chest. He checked and she wasn't breathing. The other divers were called back to the boat and the crew started CPR.

The boat returned to the dock and paramedics took her to a hospital, where she was declared dead.

An autopsy will be conducted.
