A woman was fatally shot in Miami Beach early Sunday after an altercation with a man who fled the scene, according to police.

The Miami Beach Police Department said the shooting occurred just after 2 a.m. at the northwest corner of 10th Street and Collins Avenue.

The woman was involved in an altercation with the man who shot at her at least three times, police said.

Surveillance footage showed people scrambling for cover as the bullets started flying.

"I was parking my car in the public parking spot. And we heard four shots. Four shots loud and clear, consecutively. And immediately, maybe up to five or six people went running up to, I believe it was Collins Avenue down there," one witness said.

Police haven't released the identity of the victim.

The suspect is described as a black male who was dressed in all dark clothing. He fled the scene northbound through Collins Court and tossed out the firearm near 11th Street.

"Detectives and crime scene investigators are processing the scene, gathering evidence and canvassing for surveillance video," MBPD said in a statement.

Anyone with information on the case or the suspect's location is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
