Woman in Custody After Explosion, Fire at Miami Home

A woman was in custody after authorities said she threw an explosive into the window of a home in Miami early Thursday.

Miami Fire Rescue responded to a house fire in the 1700 block of Northwest 68th Terrace after initial reports that a woman threw an explosive container through a window, officials said.

Firefighters encountered heavy flames and smoke coming out of all the doors and windows, and the roof collapsed. It was reported that two people, possibly children, were inside but a quick search determined nobody was inside, officials said.

A dead cat was later found in the burned home, officials said.

"I heard a loud explosion, heard a lady screaming, by the time I looked out the window, the fire, the flames were already coming out the window, it was accelerating rapidly," one man who witnessed the fire said.

Police arrived to find a woman fleeing the scene and quickly gave chase. The woman ran through backyards but police found her a short time later a few blocks from the fire, Miami Fire Rescue officials said.

The woman has been identified as 25-year-old Grace Jessica Seaberry. She has been charged with arson, throwing a deadly missile and throwing a bomb/destructive device.

Fire investigators and a bomb squad responded to the scene.
