Woman Rushed to Hospital After Fiery Crash Involving Miami-Dade Police Car

A woman was rushed to the hospital after her car collided with a Miami-Dade Police vehicle and burst into flames in North Miami early Wednesday, officials said.

The collision happened just before 3 a.m. at the intersection of Northeast 135th Street and Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami, Miami-Dade Police Det. Alvaro Zabaleta said.

Zabaleta said the police vehicle was stopped at a red light when it was hit from behind by the other car.

The officer, identified as a sergeant by Zabaleta, and a Florida Highway Patrol trooper pulled the woman out of her vehicle after it caught fire. She was not conscious and was taken to Aventura Hospital as a trauma alert. Her identity wasn't released and her condition was unknown.

Biscayne Boulevard remained closed between 135th and 127th Streets for nearly five hours before later reopening.

The crash remains under investigation.
