Woman Steals Car With Children Inside: Police

Miami-Dade Police arrested a woman accused of stealing a car with three children inside Friday morning.

Police said the victim parked her minivan outside the Wells Fargo Bank at 169 SW 8th Street to take money out of the ATM. According to police, the victim left her three children inside the vehicle with the keys in the ignition and the engine running.

That's when police said 34-year-old Daniela Giron-Roberts jumped into the driver's seat and drove off. Police said Giron-Roberts drove westbound on SW 8th Street against traffic before stopping mid-block between SW 2nd and 3rd Avenues to tell the children inside to get out of the vehicle.

The victim, who did not want to be identified, said she yelled at Giron-Roberts to stop the car, that her children were inside.

The mother then flagged down a police car and officers arrested Giron-Roberts on the spot.

Giron-Roberts is charged with one count of grand theft and three counts of kidnapping.

In bond court Friday afternoon, Giron-Roberts was asked if she was working, "No, I was just in a program, in a drug program," she told Judge Mindy Galzer.

She also told the court she suffers from depression and anxiety. But, she did not qualify to go to the hospital for treatment.

Giron-Roberts is being held without bond. It is unclear whether she has an attorney.
