A woman who was struck by an SUV while walking on a sidewalk in Oakland Park with her son has died, authorities said Wednesday.
Deborah Etienne, 55, succumbed to her injuries at Broward Health North Wednesday morning, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said. Her son, 14-year-old Jameson Etienne remains hospitalized in critical condition.
BSO officials said the mother and son were walking on the sidewalk on North Dixie Highway near Northeast 56th Street Monday morning when the SUV veered off the roadway and struck them. The SUV then struck a utility pole.
The driver of the SUV, 27-year-old Joel Hamlar, was also hospitalized with minor injuries and later released.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
