A child was reunited with her mother after she was allowed to go home with an adult following a case of mistaken identity at a Florida day care.
Police say 32-year-old Holly Smith, of Port Orange, showed up at Pathways School to pick up her 4-year-old daughter but found the girl had already been picked up by a stranger.
According to an incident report, a woman who said she was a co-worker of a student's mother showed up at the school and said she had been asked to pick the girl up.
But the woman, who had never met her co-worker's daughter, ended up leaving the school with the wrong child.
When Smith showed up at the school, her daughter was gone but the girl who was supposed to have been picked up was still there, the report said. The parents and staff were able to piece together the mix-up and Smith was reunited with her daughter.
No arrests were made.
