Women Spend $125,000 on Clothes Over Lifetime: Study

Over the years, women buy roughly 3,000 items, including 271 pairs of shoes, 185 dresses and 145 bags

New research has proved what husbands have suspected for years. The Daily Mail reported Thursday that women spend an average of $125,000 on clothes over their lifetime.

But despite all the money spent on clothes, the study says 60 percent of women struggle to find something to wear on a daily basis.

“Nothing looks as good as when you try it on for the first time, so that’s like a big problem because, you know, I might buy a really nice outfit, something that I love, but it never looks good as the first time and then you know the outfit's gone and you want another one,” Maria Beslac told NBC 6.

Over the years, women buy roughly 3,000 items, including 271 pairs of shoes, 185 dresses and 145 bags, the study said.

Diana Hernandez, a fashion stylist at Curve in Miami Beach, said shopping is just part of a lifestyle.

“Trends change all the time and people are always looking for the new thing,” she said. “What is hot today is not going to be hot tomorrow.”

The study also showed 10 percent of women have admitted to buying at least one item or accessory every week in the middle of the day so that they can attend an event straight from work.

“I call it retail therapy, but just like the study says, I have to buy something new,” Beslac said.

But Olga Siddons said that this study does not apply to her.

“I do most of my shopping at thrift stores or consignment shops or garage sales, and I find it hard to believe that I would add up to $125,000,” she said as she laughed.
