A World War II Veteran turned 103 on Wednesday, making him the oldest resident at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Miami.

Herman Head, an Army Air Corps veteran, was born in Amityville, Arkansas in 1910. Head celebrated with family and all 80 patients in his Community Living Center.

"It was a really nice chance for them to all get together," said Shane Suzuki, a public affairs officer with the medical center. "Any time you're celebrating a birthday in that range it's a very special occasion."

U.S. Coast Guard officials presented Head with a baseball cap and a coin as a thank you for his service.
