Man Suffers Burns in Fort Lauderdale Boat Fire

One man suffered burns after an explosion and a fire destroyed a sport fishing boat Monday in Fort Lauderdale, fire officials said.

Fire officials responded at around 4:30 p.m. to the Bahia Mar marina at 801 Seabreeze Boulevard, according to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.

Footage from Chopper 6 showed flames and heavy smoke billowing from the 2007 48-foot Viking boat.

A man was working on the boat when an explosion occurred, fire officials said. His dog was also on board but was able to escape without any injuries.

The man, who is in his 60's, was transported to Broward Health Medical Center.

Fire officials said marina staff worked to move all the surrounding boats while crews stretched over 300 feet of hose down the dock.

The boat slowly sank into the water as crews hosed down the remaining hot spots.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
