14-Pound Monster Lobster Caught in Bermuda After Hurricane Nicole

Hurricane Nicole apparently stirred up more than just waves while churning through the Atlantic last week.

A crew aboard a boat chartered from Sanctuary Marine accidentally caught a 14-pound monster lobster off the coast of Bermuda, the company said in comments on Facebook.

The massive spiny crustacean was snagged by a hook in its toe and taken to land to be untangled from a fishing line. The crew also seized the moment for a quick photo op before releasing it back into the water, according to the charter company.

Charter boat captain Matthew Jones told The Associated Press spiny lobsters are known to head to shore before storms, and this was one of the biggest he's ever seen.

The Sanctuary Marine posted photos and video of the big critter on Facebook, which have since been shared more than 15,000 times.

Although this was a huge catch, it is not the largest lobster ever reeled in. According to the Department of Maine Resources, the record goes to a 44-pound bug caught off the coast of Nova Scotia in 1977 and estimated to be 100 years old.
