21 Philly Priests Named in Sex Abuse Report Are Suspended

Nearly a decade after U.S. bishops pledged to root out sexual abuse in the church, the Philadelphia archdiocese Tuesday suspended 21 Roman Catholic priests linked to “credible allegations” of abuse, The Associated Press reported. Their names emerged as part of a two-year grand jury report into priest abuse, which named 37 priests in all. Other priests on the list have already been suspended or were no longer in active ministry. Terence McKiernan of BishopAccountability.org dismissed the archdiocese’s move as an “act of desperation, not transparency.”
